La legge amplia la protezione prevista nel Public Order Act del 1986
contro espressioni e comportamenti razzisti: costituiranno reato anche
le azioni che incitano all’odio motivato dall’appartenenza
religiosa. La protezione contro l’odio religioso è garantita senza
distinzioni in base all’appartenenza confessionale; i comportamenti
perseguibili comprendono, discorsi e comportamenti minacciosi ed
offensivi, diffusione di materiale che incita all’odio,
rappresentazioni e programmi che istigano all’odio e così via. Si
precisa che l’intervento contro tali comportamenti non dovrà
pregiudicare il diritto alla libertà di espressione.
